Preventive care is about staying ahead of problems. A well-woman visit is a chance to step back and look at your overall health. At a preventive visit, your provider may:
Your provider can talk with you about screenings recommended for your age and refer you when you need a specialist, such as a gynecologist or an OB-GYN if you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy. You can learn more on our annual physicals page.
Menopause is when your periods stop for good. The years leading up to it can bring changes that affect your sleep, comfort and mood. According to the Office on Women's Health, common symptoms include:
Some women have few symptoms, and others have many. If your symptoms bother you, talk with your provider. Together you can look at options, which may include lifestyle changes, non-hormone treatments and, for some women, hormone therapy. Your provider will go over the possible benefits and risks based on your health history, so you can decide what feels right for you.
Some women also notice fatigue or trouble focusing during this time. If those symptoms linger, our functional medicine–informed care looks at factors that may be contributing.
Vaginal bleeding after menopause is not normal. Call (513) 860-4600 so a provider can talk with you about next steps.
Lower estrogen after menopause can lead to bone loss over time. Thinner bones are more likely to break. Your provider can talk with you about your risk, whether bone screening is recommended for you, and everyday steps for stronger bones, like staying active and getting enough calcium and vitamin D from food or supplements.
Heart health matters for women at every age. Changing hormone levels around menopause can raise cholesterol, which can increase the risk of heart disease and stroke. We check your blood pressure at visits, order lab work as needed and help you manage conditions like high blood pressure and high cholesterol through our chronic care.
Stress, life changes and hormone shifts can affect how you feel. If you have been feeling down, anxious or not like yourself, you do not have to wait for it to pass. Your provider can talk with you, screen for depression and anxiety, and help you find support. Learn more about our care for anxiety and depression.
Step by step
Bring your questions, whether it's a preventive visit or a specific concern like hot flashes, sleep or mood.
Your provider reviews your history and medicines and does a physical exam. Lab work is ordered as needed.
You and your provider discuss screenings recommended for your age, treatment options and any lifestyle changes.
If you need a specialist, we refer you. We set a follow-up plan so you know when to come back.
